Who we are The Biotechnology Group is one of the largest business units in SGC. Doug Cossar manages the Biotechnology and Core Services Group. It has a staff of fifteen. The group's core activities can be categorized as: Research Services: 1. Supplying DNA clones for SGC targets 2. Cloning genes in our vectors using the high throughput method (HTP) 3. Performing test expression on generated expression constructs to assess the quantity and solubility of recombinant protein products using E. coli, eukaryotic cells or in vitro. 4. Executing additional studies e.g., protein - protein interactions to enable protein crystallization 5. Innovating techniques and adapting technologies for protein expression, purification, and crystallization. Facility Support Services: 1. General Laboratory maintenance 2. Procurement of equipment and supplies 3. Health and Safety assurance and compliance How we are organizedDoug Cossar operates as Biotechnology Group Manager and SGC Laboratory Manager. The group leverages the intellectual capital of scientific experts in the fields of molecular biology and biochemistry. Its fifteen (15) staff is organized into seven specialized subunits as detailed below: Database Research: Cloning: Test Expression, NMR, Protein Purification: Novel Methodologies: Protein Expression in Insect Cells: Crystallization Trials: Core Services: |
