Ian Adcock is Professor of Respiratory Cell & Molecular Biology and Head of the Molecular Cell Biology Group at the National Heart & Lung Institute, Imperial College London. Professor Adcock is an internationally recognized scientist in the field of airways disease and inflammation. He has authored and co-authored over 200 scientific articles, has served on the editorial boards of several journals including Drug Discovery Today and JPET and has served as an expert member on national grant-awarding organisations including UK Medical Research Council, US NIH, Australian NHMRC and Canadian MRC. Professor Adcock’s research focus includes mechanisms of airway inflammation and repair and airway epithelial cell and macrophage function particularly in response to oxidative stress in severe asthma and COPD. He also has a major interest in understanding the mechanisms underlying corticosteroid unresponsiveness in COPD and severe asthma. His research takes a translational approach and much work is concentrated on cells obtained from well-characterized patients who may be participating in clinical trials and studies.
